Mission
The mission of this grant is to support excellence in Osteopathic Orthopedic surgery research in one’s area of specialty interest. Ultimately, the study should be impactful in terms of direct improvement in patient care and outcomes, well-being, and worthy of publication.
Funding Amount
Applicants may request up to a maximum of $5,000 to help fund research projects or various areas of support (see allowable cost items below) in the surgical specialties of adult reconstruction, foot/ankle, hand, pediatric, shoulder/elbow, sports medicine, trauma or general musculoskeletal health. These funds could be used to fund an entire project or supplement funding already received/promised.
Eligibility
Applications may be submitted by domestic non-profit, public and private institutions of higher education, such as hospitals, medical schools, residency programs, universities, and colleges. The applicant (PI) must be an osteopathic orthopedic surgery resident or fellow in an ACGME accredited orthopedic program or fellowship program in the United States and a member in good standing with the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics. Applicants are limited to one submission per individual, regardless of category, per year. The same project may not be submitted in multiple grant categories, even if the PI is different.
Project and Scientific Criteria
- Research Focus: The project must align with the specific grant’s mission, whether it is general musculoskeletal health, a specific orthopedic surgical specialty area (like the foot and ankle), or a particular type of research (like clinical trials or basic science).
- Scientific Merit/Project Plan: Applications are evaluated based on the scientific quality, innovation, and significance of the study design.
- Feasibility: The project must be feasible within the funding period and budget.
- Outcomes: The proposed project should have clear and measurable outcomes.
- Project period: The project period will be up to 24 months from the date of funding.
