How long have you been a member of AOAO?

1 year

Why did you join AOAO?

I joined AOAO to immerse myself in a community of accomplished and dedicated osteopathic orthopedic physicians. As a third-year medical student with a strong interest in orthopedic surgery, I recognized the value of the resources and support that AOAO offers to students. I was particularly drawn to the opportunity to gain insight into the principles and purpose that guide our profession, while also learning how to share that knowledge with others. Additionally, the SAOAO mentorship program stood out as an invaluable resource, providing meaningful connections with mentors who could offer guidance and potentially serve as preceptors as I pursue residency.

Short Biography:

I am a proud Hispanic Latina from Washington Heights, New York, with a deep passion for orthopedic surgery. My path into medicine began with an interest in pediatrics, but during my third-year clinical rotations, I quickly discovered a true calling in orthopedics. I was captivated by the artistry and precision involved in reconstructing and restoring function to the musculoskeletal system—an intersection of science and creativity that deeply resonated with me.

As a former professional salsa dancer, I’ve always appreciated the power and complexity of the human body in motion. That background has fueled my desire to help athletes, especially dancers, return to the activities they love.  In addition is has shaped my understanding of discipline, resilience, and performance, qualities that align closely with the demands of orthopedic surgery.

As a woman and a member of an underrepresented community in medicine, I am aware of the lack of diversity in orthopedics—particularly the underrepresentation of women and minorities. I am passionate about not only pursuing excellence in the field but also advocating for greater inclusivity and representation. By sharing my story, I hope to inspire other young women, especially those from diverse backgrounds, to pursue careers in orthopedics and break barriers that have long limited the field.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy weightlifting, salsa dancing, and exploring the natural beauty of Utah through hikes with my dog.

I aspire to match into an orthopedic surgery residency, with a particular interest in pediatric orthopedics or musculoskeletal oncology. I am honored to be part of the osteopathic orthopedic community and look forward to contributing to the field through skilled, compassionate care—and by championing diversity and mentorship for the next generation.
